Meet Mannie
Mannie Zubia is an Army veteran (11B Infantry) from Chino, California, and a husband and father of two boys. He started running in 2009 while he was in the Army. After his first marathon he moved on to ultras to find out how far he could push himself.
In 2016 he gave one of his kidneys to his mom. Since then he has finished four 100-mile races, including the Leadville Trail 100 and Angeles Crest 100. He does it all with one kidney, and he uses every finish line to show people that donating can be the start of something.

On February 29, 2016, Mannie gave his mom a kidney. Both of her kidneys were failing. She was on emergency dialysis and in and out of the ER, and the transplant waitlist was more than eight years long. In Mannie’s words, “the only option for me was to step up and donate.”
Today his mom lives without dialysis. Mannie came out of surgery with a new purpose. He quit drinking, trained every day and kept going farther: 50K, 50 miles, then 100 miles.
